Rhombophryne coudreaui is a frog from the family of narrow-mouthed frogs (Microhylidae)livingon the island of Madagascar .
features
The head-torso length is about 28 millimeters, the legs are short. The second toe is longer than the rest. There are weak webbed feet between the fingers and toes . The back is brownish in color and has a grainy surface.
Similar species
Rhombophryne testudo is distinguished by barbels on the lower lip.
distribution and habitat
Rhombophryne coudreaui is endemic to Madagascar and was found in the Betampona nature reserve , in the Marojejy massif and in the Masoala National Park at altitudes of 200 to 1000 meters. The main habitat are rainforests.
Way of life
Due to its short legs, which are well suited for digging, the species prefers to live in moist depressions. Further detailed knowledge about special behavior as well as the reproduction of the species is currently not available.
Danger
Because of the relatively small distribution area of approx. 20,000 km², the species is classified by the IUCN as " vulnerable ". There is a particular threat from uncontrolled deforestation and urbanization in northeast Madagascar.
