The Riss is a steep slope in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt . It is about 20 kilometers long and marks the southern limit of the Mansfelder Platte and the northern limit of the Eisleben lowland . The crack begins north of Volkstedt as a hollow in the field and then stretches to the southeast to the Süßen See . This is where the steepest section of the Riss lies , and wine is grown on the Wormsleben- Seeburg section . At Langenbogen the slope ends in the Salza valley .
The Riss is eponymous for the villages of Unter- and Oberrißdorf .
