history
The company was founded under the name Engine Patents Ltd in 1915 by Sir Harry Ricardo in England. In 1919 the company moved to Shoreham-by-Sea in West Sussex . With the renaming to Ricardo Consulting Engineers Ltd. began in 1927 the expansion of business activities on an international level. Dave Shemmans is the current CEO.

Great Britain
Shoreham-by-Sea on the English Channel is the traditional headquarters of Ricardo plc. The focus is on research as well as the design and development of various drive systems and combustion engines, and engines and vehicles are also manufactured there in small series. Leamington Spa , near Birmingham, is one of two other Ricardo plc technical centers. The core of this center lies in the design, development, prototype and series production of drive train and transmission systems. Motorsport activities are also controlled in Leamington. In the Cambridge Development Department , Ricardo plc specializes in control and management systems for engines and powertrains. Furthermore, systems for active safety, on-board diagnostic systems and embedded software are developed there.
Germany
The German branch of Ricardo plc was founded in 1999. As a result, the presence on the Central European market was expanded and cooperation with the most important German automobile manufacturers was strengthened.
The head office has been in Schwäbisch Gmünd since 2003 .
The focus in Germany is on the construction of internal combustion engines for the automotive and motorcycle industries as well as prototype construction and testing through to series production. Structural analyzes, calibration and NVH-relevant aspects are processed in the test center in Schechingen.
Ricardo Strategic Consulting GmbH in Munich has been supporting the most important vehicle manufacturers in strategic alignment and advice since 2005.
United States
The USA is represented by Ricardo Inc. with locations in Detroit (headquarters) and Chicago . These development and test centers are managed by Thomas Apostolos. The focus there is also on the research, construction, prototyping and manufacturing of internal combustion engines and systems, but also gasoline, diesel, hybrid and gas engines of all sizes. Vehicle development and optimization as well as system control and NVH optimization are among the tasks in the American technical centers.
