Ricardo Krebs

Ricardo Krebs , full name Ricardo Krebs Wilckens , (born December 2, 1918 in Valparaíso , † December 23, 2011 in Santiago ) was a Chilean historian of German descent.

Life

Krebs went through a school education at the Colegio Alemán de Valparaíso and continued his education with studies from 1936 in Leipzig . At the University of Leipzig he obtained his doctorate in philosophy in 1941, with a focus on history. He later taught at the Universidad Católica de Chile and founded the Centro de Investigaciones Históricas, the predecessor of the local history institute. Krebs, who has been a member of the Chilean history academy Academia Chilena de la Historia since 1955 , is the author of the Historia Universal , published in 1955 . The latter still forms a basis in Chilean school education today. In 1982 he was awarded the Chilean Premio Nacional de Historia . Ten years later, in 1992, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Universidad Católica . The historian was the father of Magdalena Krebs , the director of DIBAM .
