Riccardo Broschi
Riccardo Broschi (also Brosca) (* around 1698 in Naples , † 1756 in Madrid ) was an Italian composer of the Baroque .
Life
Ricardo Broschi studied composition at the Conservatorio Santa Maria di Loreto and worked in his native city during the first years of his career. In 1725 his only comic opera had its world premiere here. At that time he was known throughout Europe for the works that his brother Carlo, the famous Farinelli , sang and that Riccardo Broschi wrote especially for him. For example, the role of Epitides in the stage work La Merope (1732). Riccardo Broschi composed at least six heroic operas between 1728 and 1735. He also participated in various pasticcios .
In 1736 and 1737 he was engaged at the court of Carl Alexander von Württemberg in Stuttgart as a “compositore di musica”. His opera Adriano in Siria was performed here in early 1737 . The sudden death of the duke on March 12, 1737 ended his stay in Stuttgart early. He moved to Madrid near his brother in 1740.
The relationship between the Broschi brothers is highlighted in the film Farinelli, der Kastrat (1994).
The stage work La Merope was given at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music in 2019 .
