Riccardo Felici (born June 11, 1819 in Parma , † July 20, 1902 in Sant'Alessio near Lucca ) was an Italian physicist. He is known for contributions to electromagnetic induction .

Life

Felici first studied engineering and then physics at the University of Pisa , where he became Carlo Matteucci's assistant in 1846 . There he became assistant professor and in 1859 head of the physical cabinet. From 1862 he was Matteucci's successor on the chair. From 1870 to 1882 he was rector of the university.

From the 1850s he dealt with electromagnetic induction (he established a quantitative law for this). He also dealt with optics.

He was also active in the Italian wars of unification, like his teacher Mateucci (for example, he took part in the battle of Curtatone and Montanara in 1848).

In 1875 he became a member of the Accademia dei Lincei . Felici edited the magazine Il Nuovo Cimento from 1893 to 1900 together with Enrico Betti .

Antonio Roiti (1843-1921; his assistant and later professor) and Angelo Battelli (1862-1916; the successor to his chair) belonged to his students .

With the help of electrical probes, he was able to locate the bullet in the leg of Giuseppe Garibaldi when he was wounded in the battle of Aspromonte.
