The ricciales are an order of liverworts . They occur on both hemispheres of the earth.
features
The sporophytes sit on the thallus or are sunk on the surface. The seta and a foot are missing from the sporophyte. The capsule is celistocarp, so it does not open. The spores are 40 to 200 micrometers in diameter. Elaters and oil bodies are absent from this order.
The main chromosome number is n = 9, with n = 8, 10, 12, 14-18, 24 and 48 also occurring.
