Rich Skrenta (* 1967 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American computer scientist , entrepreneur, and inventor .

Life

Skrenta is considered to be the inventor of the first computer virus . In 1982, at the age of 15, when he attended Mt. Lebanon High School, he wrote the world's first Elk Cloner computer virus . After leaving school, he studied computer science at Northwestern University . Skrenta is the founder of the Open Directory Project . In 2007 he founded Blekko, which operated the Blekko search engine .
