Richard Achenbach

Richard Achenbach (born September 22, 1916 in Berlin-Schöneberg ; † October 1, 2003 in Überlingen ) was a German diplomat . After serving in the consulate on various continents, he represented the Federal Republic of Germany for four years as ambassador to Sierra Leone .

Life

From 1936 to 1938 he completed a commercial apprenticeship. After returning from a prisoner-of-war camp in Canada , he studied business administration at the University of Frankfurt am Main in 1949 . In 1951 he joined the foreign service .

From 1952 to 1953 he was an embassy employee in Sydney . He then moved to the embassy in New Zealand's capital Wellington for six and a half years . In May 1960 he returned to Germany in the trade policy department of the Foreign Office and did his doctorate in Frankfurt on the effects of New Zealand's labor and social legislation on the economy that is dependent on foreign trade . He stayed there until 1965 and then from 1966 to 1969 in the German embassy in Pretoria , South Africa , as an economic advisor . Towards the end of this time he was given the title of Consul 1st Class . His next professional position was from November 1969 to June 1974 at the German Consulate General in New York . Here he earned the title of ambassador . From June 1974 to July 1978 he was appointed ambassador to Sierra Leone. From June 1978 he carried the title of Consul General. In this position he moved to Canada to the Consulate General in Edmonton at the end of his career . At the end of September 1981 he retired.

Richard Achenbach was a member of the "Order of the Holy Spirit on the Blue Ribbon" ("Cordon bleu du Saint Esprit"), which, among other things, characterizes the work that unites people. He was married and had two children.
