Richard Baum (Romanist)

Richard Baum (* 1937 in Trachenberg ) is a German Romance scholar , Medievalist and linguist.

Life

Baum received his doctorate in 1966 at the Sorbonne with Félix Lecoy with the Thèse de 3e cycle Recherches sur le lai en France au moyen âge (published by T. Recherches sur les œuvres attribuées à Marie de France , Heidelberg 1968). He became Hans Helmut Christmann's assistant at the University of Saarland and qualified as a professor in 1974 with the script Dependenzgrammatik. Tesnière's model of language description from a scientific-historical and critical point of view (Tübingen 1976). He was first professor for Romance Philology at the University of Bonn , from 1977 (as successor to Hans-Wilhelm Klein ) full professor at RWTH Aachen University (until his retirement).

Baum is the editor of the Romanica et Comparatistica series. Linguistic and literary studies (Tübingen 1983 ff; with Willi Hirdt) and treatises on language and literature (Bonn 1986 ff).
