Johann Carl Richard Biedermann (* July 20, 1843 in Leipzig ; † May 10, 1880 there ) was a German agricultural chemist . The " Centralblatt für Agrikulturchemie " founded by him in 1872 was until 1944 one of the leading departments in German agricultural science.

Live and act

Richard Biedermann, son of the politician Karl Biedermann , studied agriculture at the University of Leipzig from 1865 after a two-year apprenticeship on Thuringian domain estates . In 1869 he did his doctorate there with the agricultural chemist Wilhelm Knop with a dissertation on soil absorption . In 1870 he had to give up an assistant position at the agricultural research station in Möckern near Leipzig, which he had accepted in the same year, for health reasons.

Since then, Biedermann's interest has been limited to literary activities. In 1871 he drafted a plan for a central department of agricultural chemistry . In 1872 he founded the "Central-Blatt für Agrikulturchemie und Rationellen Landwirtschaftsbetrieb", which he published himself until his untimely death. It was later published under the title “Biedermann's Central-Blatt für Agrikulturchemie und Rational Landwirtschaftsbetrieb”, supervised by numerous specialists. Until 1944, it was one of the most important lecturing bodies in the German-speaking area for the science-oriented disciplines of agriculture.

From 1875 onwards, Biedermann published a “Guide in Field, Stable and House” especially for farmers, also a departmental organ, of which a total of 15 volumes had appeared by 1889.
