Richard Crodel
Richard Crodel (born February 23, 1903 in Marseille , † 1944 ) was a German actor and director .
Life
Richard Crodel first grew up in Marseille, where his father Carl Richard Crodel († 1914) worked as a wholesale merchant and German consul, then from 1912 in Jena . His brothers were Charles Crodel (1894–1973) and Heinrich Crodel (1897–1945). From 1921 he studied German, art history, philosophy and psychology at the University of Jena , and from May 1923 at the University of Munich . On May 21, 1926, he received his doctorate there in theater history with the work The Actor Ernst Possart .
He took acting lessons from Rudolf Rieth in Weimar and then worked in Mönchengladbach in 1926/27 . From 1930 Crodel was the first dramaturge, director and actor at the National Theater Weimar . There he directed The Man with the Gray Temples by Leo Lenz in January 1933 and Bargeld Lacht by Nándor Újhelyi (1888-1933) in May 1933 .
Crodel countered the politicization of the National Theater under Franz Ulbrich by moving to the Nordmark-Landestheater Schleswig. From around 1936 to 1939, Crodel worked at the Mainz State Theater , and then worked at the Koblenz Theater until his military service in 1943 .
