Yves Rossier

Yves Rossier (born November 14, 1960 in Delsberg ; legal resident in La Brillaz ) is a Swiss civil servant and diplomat. He has been Switzerland's ambassador to Russia since February 2017.

Life

Rossier is the son of a bank clerk and a secretary. He obtained a licentiate degree in law from the University of Friborg, then studied European law at the College of Europe in Bruges and obtained a Master of Laws from McGill University in Montreal.

In 1990 Rossier began his career as legal advisor to the integration office of the FDFA under Jakob Kellenberger . After the diplomatic concours he did a stage in the Political Department II there in 1993. Afterwards Rossier, who is a member of the FDP, worked as a scientific advisor to the Federal Councilors Jean-Pascal Delamuraz and Pascal Couchepin . From 2000 to 2003 he headed the Federal Casino Commission. In February 2004 he became director of the Federal Social Insurance Office (FSIO) in the Federal Department of Home Affairs (EDI). When Federal Councilor Didier Burkhalter moved from the interior to the external department in 2012, he took Rossier with him.

In January 2012, the Federal Councilor appointed Rossier State Secretary in the Directorate of Political Affairs in the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), and he took office on May 1, 2012. He succeeded Peter Maurer , who became President of the ICRC . He stepped down from his position in August 2016, and was succeeded by Pascale Baeriswyl . In October 2016, Rossier was appointed Swiss ambassador to Russia in place of the previous ambassador in Kosovo , Krystyna Marty Lang , who had been scheduled for the post the previous year . He took up this position in February 2017 as the successor to Pierre Helg , who retired at the end of November 2016 .

Rossier is married to a lawyer and has five children.
