Richard Mackie "Dick" Fraser (born March 15, 1913 in Edinburgh , † January 19, 1972 in London ) was a British - American actor .

Life

Fraser was born Richard Mackie Fraser in Scotland ; the British Film Institute lists US citizens as their citizenship . Fraser attended Cambridge University . He completed his acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art . In London he had a brief career as a stage actor.

In the late 1930s he went to Hollywood , where he got a contract with 20th Century Fox . In the 1940s he acted in several American films. Best known is his portrayal of the revenge-minded brother of a singer in the film The Portrait of Dorian Gray from 1945. In 1949 he retired from acting. In 1961 he returned to England . Later worked for the BBC as managing director in sales .

He was married a total of three times. His first wife was named Louise Christine Sheldon. The marriage lasted from 1938 to 1944. This marriage resulted in a child. He was married to the actress Ann Gillis in his second marriage from 1952 to 1970 and also had a child with her. Shortly before his death, he married Edna Martin in 1971.

He died of cancer . For a long time, the majority gave 1971 as the year of his death, but now January 19, 1972 is considered certain.
