Richard Fritz Behrendt
Richard Fritz Behrendt (born February 6, 1908 in Gleiwitz , † October 17, 1972 in Basel ) was a German sociologist .
Life
Richard F. Behrendt was the son of a factory owner in Gliwice (now Gliwice, Poland). He studied at the Nuremberg Commercial College , then at the universities in Cologne and Basel ( habilitation there in 1931 ) and at the London School of Economics . From 1932 to 1934 freelance journalistic activity, then from 1935 to 1940 full professor for sociology and political economy at the University of Panama.
1940–53 teaching position at various American universities, consulting work in Peru , Guatemala , Puerto Rico and Panama , a. a. on behalf of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development ( World Bank ) and the UN . 1953 extraordinary professorship for sociology and economic organization at the University of Bern , 1956 full professor, 1960 director of the Institute for Sociology and Socio-Economic Development Issues at the University of Bern. 1965–72 full professor of sociology at the Free University of Berlin .
