Richard Gutzwiller

Richard Gutzwiller SJ (born May 26, 1896 in Basel , † May 29, 1958 in Zurich ) was a Swiss Roman Catholic priest and theologian .

Life

Richard Gutzwiller joined the Society of Jesus in 1915. After his ordination in 1926, he worked in Zurich as a student and academic chaplain from 1928. In 1952 he became honorary professor for biblical theological questions in Innsbruck and director of the Apologetic Institute of the Swiss Catholic People's Association .

Richard Gutzwiller was a mentor and pastor of the ultra-conservative Swiss politician James Schwarzenbach , who after a year of teaching at Gutzwiller in on February 10, 1933 Zurich Liebfrauenkirche the Roman Catholic baptism received. Schwarzenbach repeatedly speaks of the Gutzwiller in his diaries from 1933 to 1943.

Politically, Gutzwiller was an advocate of a backward-looking Catholicism. He advocated the corporate state and had sympathy for authoritarian states, notably the Franco dictatorship of Spain.
