Richard Lien
Richard David "Dick" Lien (born March 2, 1943 ) is an American basketball coach .
career
Lien graduated from Moorhead State College with a degree in Physical Education in 1965 and graduated from St. Cloud State College with a degree in special education in 1969 .
He worked in his home country as a coach at high school level, in the 1978/79 season he was then head coach of the basketball team at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in the state of Minnesota , followed by posts as an assistant coach (1979/80 at the university of Minnesota , from 1980 to 1982 at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay). From 1982 to 1985 Lien held the post of head coach of the basketball team at the latter university. In the 1985/86 season he coached a team outside of his home country for the first time, Lien was in charge of the Al Ahli Club in Saudi Arabia . From 1986 to 1993 he was an assistant coach on the staff of the University of Wyoming . During this time Wyoming reached the playoffs of the first NCAA division twice . In the 1993/94 season he coached the Austrian Bundesliga club Oberwart Gunners , was also active in youth work and led the Burgenland U18 team to win the state championship. In the game year 1994/95 Lien was assistant coach of the team at Southern Methodist University and from 1995 to 1998 in the same position at the University of Houston .
Lien moved back to Europe after his tenure in Houston, coaching the Belgian club Siemens Gent in the 1998/99 season. He was then the Danish national coach in 2000. He then coached the national team of Saudi Arabia. In February 2001 he was hired as head coach of the German Bundesliga club SSV Ulm , but a few days later they split up.
In 2002 he advised on basketball issues in Split, Croatia, from 2002 to 2007 Lien was a coach at Woodbury Senior High School in the state of Minnesota, in August 2007 he took up the post of assistant coach of the women's team at Colorado State University and worked until Spring 2012 in this office. In September 2012 Lien was hired as head coach of the Czech women's first division club Basketbalový Klub Strakonice. He stayed in office until January 2013.
For the 2013/14 season Lien became assistant coach of the women's team at Drury University ( Missouri, USA ). In the 2015/16 season he worked as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team at the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
In 2016, Lien joined Blue Star Basketball, an information, camp and training provider for girls' basketball in the United States.
