Richard P. Lifton
Richard Priestley Lifton (* 1953 ) is an American nephrologist and geneticist and Sterling Professor at Yale University in New Haven , Connecticut .
Lifton was able to identify various genes that are responsible for increased ( arterial hypertension ) or decreased ( arterial hypotension ) blood pressure by influencing the salt balance of humans in the kidneys .
Life
Lifton earned a bachelor's degree in life sciences from Dartmouth College , an MD in 1982, and a Ph.D. in 1986. at Stanford University in Stanford , California . He is the Sterling Professor of Internal Medicine and Genetics at Yale University in New Haven , Connecticut . He also does research for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute .
