Pasarow Award

The Pasarow Medical Research Awards (Robert J. and Claire Pasarow Foundation Medical Research Awards) were awarded from 1988 (for 1987) to 2013 by the Robert J. and Claire Pasarow Foundation based in Geneva in three categories to raise public awareness of important To increase research areas. The prizes were last endowed with 50,000 US dollars each. They were awarded for basic and clinical research in the fields of cancer research , cardiovascular diseases and neuropsychiatry . The criteria for the award was evidence of significant research results and the likelihood of future extraordinary achievements in biomedical science.

Robert J. Pasarow (1917–2000), founder and former president of CHB Foods, and his wife Claire Pasarow (1918–2008) established the foundation in 1987 to promote outstanding medical research. Robert Pasarow was the Foundation's President for many years and Claire Pasarow was Chief Financial Officer.

Five of the Pasarow Prize winners later received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (Arvid Carlsson, Eric Kandel, Stanley Prusiner, Elizabeth H. Blackburn and Peter J. Ratcliffe), three the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (Roger D. Kornberg, Paul Modrich and Robert Lefkowitz ).

Award winners

Until around 2008, the award winners were awarded for the previous year. This rhythm was interrupted around 2008/2009 and then resumed around 2010 with counting: the award of the 22nd prizes was announced in early 2010.
