David M. Livingston

David Morse Livingston (born March 29, 1941 ) is an American geneticist and cancer researcher at Harvard Medical School , the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Dana-Farber / Harvard Cancer Center , a joint institution of these two institutions.

Livingston earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard College in 1961 and an MD from Tufts University in 1965 with a medical degree. He completed his internist training at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston . 1967 became a research assistant at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), 1969 at Harvard Medical School (for biochemistry ). From 1971 he was back as a research group leader at the NCI before moving to the Childrens Cancer Research Foundation in 1973 (now the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute ). Today (as of 2017) he is Deputy Director of the Institute and Head of the Department of Cancer Genetics. He is also Emil Frei Professor of Genetics and Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Livingston is an expert in the molecular pathogenesis of various cancers, including breast cancer and ovarian cancer in particular . He is primarily concerned with genes that regulate cell growth, including oncogenes and the tumor suppressor genes retinoblastoma protein (Rb), p300 / CBP , BRCA1 and BRCA2 . Further work deals with the biological function of BACH1 , RAP80 and other proteins that interact with the BRCA proteins.

David M. Livingston has been a member of the Institute of Medicine since 1990, a member of the National Academy of Sciences since 1995 , an associate member of the European Molecular Biology Organization since 2000, and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2001 . He received the Pasarow Award for Cancer Research in 2012 and became a Fellow of the AACR Academy ( American Association for Cancer Research ) in 2014 .
