Richard Nevill, 2nd Baron Latymer

Richard Nevill, 2nd Baron Latymer (also Neville , * 1468 ; † December 1530 at Snape Castle, Yorkshire ) was an English nobleman and politician .

Life

He was the eldest son of Sir Henry Neville from his marriage to Joanna Bourchier, daughter of John Bourchier, 1st Baron Berners . His father was the eldest son of George Nevill, 1st Baron Latymer .

He was still an infant when his father was killed in the Battle of Edgecote Moor in July 1469 during the Wars of the Roses . When his grandfather also died in December 1469, he inherited his title of nobility as Baron Latymer . During his minority he was under the tutelage of his uncle Thomas Bourchier , Cardinal and Archbishop of Canterbury, while his lands were administered by the Crown until 1491.

He stood loyally on the side of King Henry VII and participated in the suppression of the uprisings of the impostors Lambert Simnel in the Battle of Stoke (1487) and Perkin Warbeck (1496/97).

In 1513 he fought against the Scots at the Battle of Flodden Field . On July 13, 1530 he was one of the signatories of the petition with which Pope Clement VII was asked to divorce King Henry VIII of Catherine of Aragon .

He died in late 1530 on his family seat, Snape Castle in North Yorkshire, and was buried next to his first wife on December 28, 1530 in St. Michael's Church in nearby Well.

Marriages and offspring

Around 1490 he married Anne Stafford, daughter of Sir Humphrey Stafford, landlord of Grafton in Worcestershire and Blatherwyck in Northamptonshire. With her he had nine sons and six daughters:

His second marriage was in 1502 Margaret Danby († 1521), widow of Sir James Strangways. The marriage remained childless.
