Richard Saunders Dundas

Sir Richard Saunders Dundas (born April 11, 1802 in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland , †  June 3, 1861 in London ) was a British admiral .

Dundas was a son of the First Lord of the Admiralty , Viscount Melville. He entered the naval service at a very young age and between 1827 and 1828 commanded the ship of the line Worspite of 76 cannons, the first vehicle of this class to make a trip around the world . Then Dundas took part in the war against China in 1840 , where he distinguished himself in the conquest of the island of Chu-san . From 1852 he held the office of junior lord of the Admiralty and finally in 1853 became Rear Admiral .

After Napier was released , he was given supreme command of the British Baltic Fleet and sailed from the dunes in April 1855 . Meanwhile, most of the campaign went without decisive operations until Dundas decided to bombard Sveaborg (August 9-11 ). In the winter of 1856/57 he commanded a squadron in the English Channel and off Portugal , then became Lord of the Admiralty and in 1858 Vice Admiral of the Blue Flag.
