Franz Richard Schmidt (born May 4, 1871 in Krögis , † February 13, 1945 in Dresden ) was a German SPD politician .

Life and work

Schmidt attended elementary school in Krögis until 1885 and then completed a pottery apprenticeship in Meißen , which he completed in 1889 with the journeyman's examination. After working as a potter until 1899, he worked as a bookseller until 1908. He then worked in the potters ' union as a full-time workers secretary and editor of the union newspaper . He was killed in one of the Allied bombing raids on Dresden in 1945 .

Schmidt, who had been a member of the Meissen city council since 1907, was first elected in 1912 for the constituency of Meissen in the Reichstag of the German Empire, to which he belonged until 1918. He was a member of the Weimar National Assembly from the election to the German National Assembly on January 19, 1919 until its end in 1920 . Then he was again a member of the Reichstag until 1930 .
