Richard Schröter

Richard Schröter (born November 5, 1892 in Berlin ; † February 19, 1977 there ) was a German educator , politician ( SPD ) and resistance fighter.

Life

The son of a police officer attended the preparatory institute and a teacher training college after primary school . From 1913 Schröter worked as a teacher and later also as rector. From 1918 he was a member of the SPD. Schröter was also involved in the Federation of Free School Societies. There he met Kurt Megelin , with whom he worked together in the left-wing socialist resistance group Red Shock Troop from 1933 . After the transfer of power Schröter was dismissed from school. From around 1934/1935 he began to set up a bread distribution company, the business premises of which were in Erich Domke's factory at Prenzlauer Allee 36. Schröter used his new job not only for profit, but also to distribute illegal newspapers and leaflets. Schröter was very well networked in Berlin resistance circles and kept in touch with Wilhelm Leuschner , among others .

After the Second World War he took over the chairmanship of the West Berlin teachers' union, Association of Teachers and Educators (BVL). After the Independent Trade Union Opposition (UGO) split off on May 23, 1948, from the Free German Trade Union Confederation , the union organization of the Soviet occupation zone, he also became its chairman. Schröter also worked as a senior school councilor in the Charlottenburg district of Berlin.

On January 31, 1952, he was elected to the German Bundestag by the Berlin House of Representatives, to which he was a member of the Berlin parliament, who was not entitled to vote, until the end of the third legislative term.

Richard Schröter died on February 19, 1977 at the age of 84 in West Berlin. He is buried in the forest cemetery in Zehlendorf . His grave is dedicated to the city of Berlin as an honorary grave .
