Richard Simmons (born July 12, 1948 in New Orleans , Louisiana ), actually Milton Teagle Simmons , is an American fitness trainer , comedian and actor .

Life

Simmons is the son of Leonard Douglas Simmons Sen. (1897-1983) and Shirley May Simmons, née Satin (1911-1999), who both worked in show business. Simmons grew up in the French Quarter of New Orleans. He has an older brother Leonard Simmons Jun. His father was a Methodist and worked as a Master of Ceremonies and later in a thrift store . His mother was a Russian Jew and worked as a dancer and later as a cosmetics seller.

In the English-speaking world, the gym owner Simmons became known primarily as a fitness trainer who appeared in many fitness videos and television shows. With his conspicuous and extroverted demeanor, he gained a great reputation. In 1992 Simmons dubbed the Richard Simmons dinosaur in the puppet series The Dinos , in 1993 an aerobic trainer in the animated series Rockos Modern Life and in 1998 Boone in the cartoon Rudolph the Red Nose . He spoke Physedipus in 1998 in the direct-to-video cartoon Hercules: Zero to Hero as well as in the following cartoon series Hercules and from 2011 to 2012 Coach Salmons in the cartoon The Fish Club .

In 2014, Simmons suddenly withdrew from the public, which led to much speculation. In 2016 he published a statement in which he stated that there was no need to worry about him and that he deliberately wanted to be less in public.
