Richard Spohn

Richard Spohn (born August 22, 1880 in Ravensburg , † September 20, 1959 in Neckarsulm ) was a German entrepreneur. He was director of the company Gebrüder Spohn GmbH , a jute spinning, weaving and sack factory in Neckarsulm.

Career

Spohn studied at the engineering school in Mittweida and in 1905 joined the company founded by his grandfather Christian Paul Spohn (1803-1884) in 1832/33, which was only relocated from Ravensburg to Neckarsulm in 1904 because of the better transport links, especially to the waterways . In 1917 he took over the management from his father Julius Spohn . Richard Spohn managed to get the company safely through two world wars. He earned services through numerous social benefits for his workforce such as the construction of well-equipped company apartments , a daycare center, a leisure area and a canteen and the establishment of a company health insurance fund . At the time of his death, the company employed around 1,000 people.

In addition, he was chairman of the supervisory board of Portland-Zementwerke Heidelberg AG (today HeidelbergCement AG ), Portland-Zement Blaubeuren Gebrüder Spohn AG and the Cluss brewery (Heilbronn). He was also a member of the supervisory boards of the United Jute Spinnerei und -Webereien AG (Hamburg), the Deutsche Linoleum-Werke (Bietigheim) and the Schwaben energy supply (Biberach).

For the CDU , Spohn was also a member of the Neckarsulm municipal council for several years .
