John Richard Steadman (* 1937 ) is an American orthopedic surgeon .

Steadman is a recognized specialist in knee surgery . He is best known for his prominent patients in the field of sports . He practices at his clinic in Vail, Colorado and is a professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas .

Career

Steadman initially studied at Texas A&M University . He received his MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School . From 1965 to 1966 Steadman was a military doctor in Bad Tölz . He then went to New Orleans and later to California , where he specialized in knee surgery. Since 1990 he has headed the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, which he runs together with shoulder specialist Richard Hawkins. In 2000, Steadman received the GOTS Beiersdorf research award for cruciate ligament operations and rehabilitation of professional athletes ( ACL surgery and rehabilitation of professional sportsmen ).

Work areas

In the 1980s, Steadman developed the technique of microfracture to treat defects in cartilage. The healing response technique based on this procedure for treating cruciate ligament tears was developed by Steadman in the 1990s. For meniscus replacement therapy, he developed the collagen meniscus implant (CMI) during the same period, which is arthroscopically implanted in the event of significant meniscus partial losses and leads to tissue regeneration.
