Richard Stearns ( Richard E. "Rich" Stearns ) is the current President of World Vision Inc. , the American office of an evangelical aid organization based in Federal Way, Washington .

biography

Stearns earned his bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a master's degree in business administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania . At Cornell University he joined the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity , and that brought him to the Irving Literary Society . He started his career in marketing at Gillette . From 1977 to 1985 he held various positions at Parker Brothers , which he completed with the high point as President in 1984 when the company was acquired and only kept its brand name under the owner Hasbro . In 1985 he became Vice President of Franklin Mint , and in 1987 he joined Lenox as President of Lenox Collections. He was named President and CEO of Lenox Inc. in 1985, overseeing three business units, six manufacturing facilities, 4,000 employees, and annual sales of $ 500 million. Stearns left Lenox Inc. in June 1998 and became President of World Vision United States .

As President of World Vision Inc., Stearns is responsible for running projects in the US, including fundraising , advocacy (lobbying), and development cooperation programs outside the US. World Vision United States is a Christian disaster relief and development organization dedicated to helping children and their communities worldwide reach their full potential by eradicating poverty from its roots. Helping children and families affected by AIDS around the world is important to Stearns and made this a priority for his organization.

World Vision grew under Stearn's leadership. Due to the introduction of the best practice principle and the creation of a strong management team, Christianity Today names World Vision USA as an increasingly important player in global humanitarian aid.

Stearns was among the first to sign the Evangelical Manifesto in 2008.

Publications

He writes opposition editorials on global poverty and AIDS for major newspapers and magazines in the United States and has appeared on CNN, Fox, ABS, NBC and PBS. His articles include Samaritans on the AIDS crisis and The face of America should meet the face of poverty .

He is also the author of The Hole in Our Gospel: What does God expect of Us? The Answer that Changed my Life and Might Just Change the World (such as: The Vacuum in our Gospel: What Does God Expect from Us? The Answer That Changed My Life and Perhaps Will Change the Whole World). The book is about how a business executive struggles to obey God at all costs and his passionate call to all Christians to change the world by actively living their faith. By setting his own life path as an example, he describes the vacuum that Christians would have in their understanding of the gospel.
