Sir Richard Tempest of Giggleswick (* around 1408, † 1488 ) was an English knight .

Life

Sir Richard was a devoted supporter of the House of Lancaster and fought during the Wars of the Roses in 1460 at the Battle of Northampton , at Wakefield, and at the defeat at Towton in 1461 .

Richard Tempest was in Wakefield by John Clifford, 9th Baron de Clifford to beat Knight . In July 1465 Richard Tempest had the honor of Henry VI, King of Lancaster . who was on the run to be allowed to serve as a guest at Waddington Hall . Heinrich's whereabouts were revealed to the Yorkists , and a scuffle broke out. Heinrich and his companions, including Sir Richard Tunstall , managed to escape. There are various sources of information about this betrayal. Some see John Tempest, Richard's brother, who sympathized with the Yorkists, responsible, other sources say that Sir Richard himself committed the treason. In any case, the Tempest family was rewarded with land shortly afterwards.

Sir Richard served as Sheriff of Lincolnshire in 1469/70 and fought against Scotland under Richard, Duke of Gloucester in 1482. On August 22, 1485, Richard Tempest fought for Richard III. at the Battle of Bosworth .

Sir Richard died in 1488 and has his final resting place in St. Alkelda Church , Giggleswick.
