Richard Thomas (born December 30, 1744 in West Whiteland , Chester County , Province of Pennsylvania , †  January 19, 1832 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1795 and 1801 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Richard Thomas grew up during the British colonial era. He was tutored at home by private tutors. In the 1770s he joined the American Revolution . During the Revolutionary War he was colonel in a regiment made up of volunteers from Chester County. Politically, he later became a member of the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton in the late 1790s .

In the congressional elections of 1794 Thomas was elected in the third constituency of the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives, which was then still in Philadelphia. After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1801 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Richard Thomas worked in agriculture. He died in Philadelphia on January 19, 1832.
