Richard Ian Wright (born November 5, 1977 in Ipswich ) is an English football player .

Career

The goalkeeper began his career at his home club Ipswich Town in 1994. In 2001, the Englishman moved to top London club Arsenal . After an unsuccessful year as a substitute goalkeeper for the Gunners, Wright moved to Everton for the equivalent of around 5 million euros , where he played for five years. In July 2007 he moved to West Ham United in the East End of London , where he could not book a use. In 2008 he was loaned out to Southampton FC on short notice before his home club Ipswich Town Wright signed.

On July 1, 2012, Wright moved to Preston North End , but left the club again after a week because he was too far away from his East Anglia family. At the end of August of the same year, he signed a contract with reigning champions Manchester City until the end of the season and extended it for one year in each of the next three seasons. On May 17, 2016, he finally hung up his football boots without ever having played a first division game for City.

Wright played twice in the English national football team , friendly games against Malta and the Netherlands .
