Richland is a city in Navarro County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located in the middle east of Texas on Interstate 45 , about 20 km south of Corsicana and has a total area of 2.8 km² without any significant water surface.
history
The town was founded around 1848 when Asa Chambers opened a general store and that same year a post office called Richland Crossing opened near Richland Creek on the Corsicana road. The school was built during the American Civil War . When the Houston and Texas Central Railway's tracks were laid nearby in 1871 , the place began to disintegrate and reform around the railroad depot.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 8,132 people lived here in 3,197 households and 2,196 families. The population density was 996.8 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 90.41% White, 1.44% African American, 0.61% Native American, 1.01% Asian, 0.27% Pacific Islander, and 4.06% other ethnic groups. About 2.20% were mixed race and 10.15% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,197 households, 29.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 52.9% of these were married couples living together. 11.5% were single mothers and 31.3% were non-families. 26.4% of all households were single households and there were people living in 12.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.99 people.
23.6% of the population were under 18 years old, 7.1% 18 to 24, 27.4% 25 to 44, 21.7% 45 to 64, and 20.2% who were 65 years of age or older were. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 85.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over, there were 83.2 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 43,377 , and the median income for a family is $ 50,377. Males had a median income of $ 35,635 versus $ 28,066 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,247. 5.8% of the population and 3.9% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 8.2% were children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 3.1% were 65 or older.
