Coordinates: 29 ° 1 ′  S , 153 ° 8 ′  E Richmond Valley is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 3,047.4 km² and has about 22,800 inhabitants.

Richmond Valley is located in the northeast of the state about 720 km north of the metropolis of Sydney and 230 km south of Brisbane . The area includes 62 hamlets and hamlets, including Bora Ridge, Busbys Flat, Ellangowan, Evans Head, Stratheden, Tabbimoble, Tatham, Tomki, Woodburn, Wyan and Yorklea as well as parts of Broadwater, Casino and Coraki. The administrative seat of the council is in the city of Casino in the northeast of the LGA, in which about 10,000 inhabitants live.

The Richmond Valley Council has nine members. Eight councilors and the council chairman and mayor are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Richmond Valley is not divided into districts.
