The leading light line Balje describes the course of the incoming fairway between Glameyer Stack and the Osteriff on the Lower Elbe .
The head light was set up in 1977 in the nature reserve "Außenendeich Nordkehdingen I" and is in the immediate vicinity of the old Balje lighthouse . The 50.3 m high and circular tower shaft is made of reinforced concrete . An emergency power generator is installed inside . The tower head with the lamp compartment consists of two rings placed one on top of the other. It has a diameter of 7.1 m and is 6.1 m high.
The 24 m high lower light is 2460 m away from the upper light and stands in the tidal flats . Both towers form a directional line of fire of pointing right 81 °.
After they were built, the towers could already be used as daylight signs , but the lights did not go into operation until December 15, 1980. At the same time the old Balje beacon was extinguished.
