Life

He came from the noble family Commercy . He was canon in Toul and held the office of Primicerius and Grand Archdeacon. He was also provost of St. Gangolf.

He was from the forces of reform in Touler Domkapitel successor Pibos selected. He delayed the consecration by Archbishop Bruno von Trier , who was a follower of Heinrich V. The emperor himself evidently recognized it quickly. Subsequently, in spite of Henry's anti-papal policy, Richwin is attested several times near the emperor in the years 1111–1114. In 1114, for example, Heinrich granted Bishop Richwin the right to mint in the city of Toul and the right to convene the nobility of his county if necessary.

Only when Henry installed an antipope with Gregory VIII did Richwin move over to the pope's camp. He met Calixt II himself in Poitiers in 1119 . He also attended the Synod of Reims that same year, when the emperor was again banned. How he stood on the Worms Concordat is not known.

Within his diocese, he continued the church and monastery reform work of his predecessors. Numerous documents in favor of spiritual institutions testify to this. He was also in contact with Bernhard von Clairvaux .

He was buried in the Cathedral of Toul .
