Frederick Stoddard II "Rick" Chaffee (born January 10, 1945 in Rutland , Vermont ) is a retired American ski racer .

Chaffee competed for the US national team in the World Cup for six years . During this time he reached the podium three times, always in the slalom, and a further 23 times a place in the top 10. His best placement was a second place in March 1970 in Heavenly Valley , California , after he had already achieved two third places in 1968 . Furthermore, Chaffee took part in the slalom and giant slalom in Grenoble in 1968 . He came in ninth and 15th. Four years later in Sapporo he was 30th in the giant slalom and was eliminated in the first round of the slalom.

Chaffee comes from a family that is very interested in skiing: his sister Suzy also competed in alpine ski racing at the 1968 Winter Olympics. His cousin Jonathan was a biathlete and, together with his sister Kim, also a ski racer for Harvard University .
