Rico Saccani

Rico Saccani (born April 16, 1952 in Tucson ) is an American conductor of Italian origin.

After winning the International Herbert von Karajan Competition in Berlin, Saccani performed with the Berlin and Stuttgart Radio Orchestras, the Royal Danish Philharmonic and at the Spoleto Festival. In 1985 he made his debut as an opera conductor with Verdi's Un giorno di regno at the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona . From 1985 to 2005 he was principal guest conductor of the Hungarian State Opera and from 1996 to 2005 musical director of the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra . In 2005 he was awarded the Order of the Hungarian Legion of Honor for his services to Hungarian cultural life.

Saccani u. a. with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic, the Irish National Symphony , the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra , the orchestras of Madrid and Bilbao, the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra, the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, the Mannheim National Theater Orchestra, the Marseille Opera Orchestra and the Franz- Liszt Chamber Orchestra. On CD he played a. a. Works by Robert Schumann , Ottorino Respighi , Giuseppe Verdi , Gustav Holst , Richard Strauss , Edward Elgar , Jean Sibelius and Franz Schubert . In 2011 his autobiography Made in Italy: The Story of an American Conductor was published .
