Ride of Silence

The Ride of Silence is an annual cycling event that commemorates cyclists who have been killed and injured on public roads. The event takes place in the manner of the Critical Mass , but the cycle is silent.

Most of the participants are dressed in white. The parade drives to places of accident that are marked with white painted bicycles ( ghost bikes ) and keeps a minute's silence there.

The first Ride of Silence was committed in Dallas , Texas in 2003 . Since then, the Ride of Silence has been held on the third Wednesday in May every year. In 2015, Rides of Silence took place in 340 cities in 20 countries worldwide.

Situation in Germany

The Ride of Silence is carried out in Germany according to the right to demonstrate with police escort. In 2015 German rides took place in Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Stuttgart, Hanover, Wiesbaden, Freiburg, Oldenburg and Osnabrück. It takes place every year on the third Wednesday in May.
