Germany

As part of the Ghost Bikes campaign on February 14, 2009 in Berlin, eleven ghost bikes were set up by the ADFC Berlin at the locations of the eleven cyclists who died in 2008 . Since 2010, when seven cyclists had fatal accidents in Cologne, the ADFC has also been setting up ghost bikes at the accident sites, including for a 57-year-old woman who died in Lindenthal in 2010 and a 29-year-old trauma surgeon who died in Ehrenfeld in 2013 , both of whom were overlooked by truck drivers when turning, and for a student who was killed in 2015 in Deutz as bystanders in an illegal car race.

On October 29, 2011, Critical Mass activists installed a ghost bike on the Inn Bridge at the foot of the Schloßberg in Rosenheim, Upper Bavaria . In Nuremberg, at the Gleißbühlstrasse / Blumenstrasse intersection, a ghost bike was also installed for a 44-year-old cyclist who fell victim to a truck turning right on October 28, 2013. A comparable project came into being in Langenfeld in 2005 , whereby so-called warning wheels are set up at recognized danger spots in road traffic.

In 2013, the first ghost bike was set up in Nuremberg on the corner of Gleißbühlstrasse and Blumenstrasse in memory of a 44-year-old cyclist who died in a collision with a semi-trailer. A second memorial was set up in summer 2017 for a 33-year-old who was the victim of an accident with a truck turning right on the corner of Vogelweiherstrasse and Ulmenstrasse, and a third in commemoration in summer 2019 on the corner of Seumestrasse and Jitzhak-Rabin Strasse to a 30-year-old cyclist who was also killed in an accident with a truck turning right. The first Ghostbike in Göttingen was also set up in 2013; at the end of 2017 there were ten. In Hamburg, 500 Critical-Mass cyclists set up a ghost bike on January 31, 2014 for an 18-year-old cyclist who had been killed the day before and was run over by a truck turning right on a cycle path. Another was installed on October 28, 2016 at the intersection of Wandsbeker Chaussee / Ritterstrasse for a 19-year-old cyclist who was fatally injured when a truck turned right. At the beginning of April 2014, a ghost bike was set up in Osnabrück for a 20-year-old who was overlooked by a truck driver. Several white wheels were also installed in Magdeburg on the initiative of the ADFC. On July 30, 2015, a ghost bike was installed in Augsburg for a young woman who had fallen victim to a truck turning right a month earlier. In Munich , on the corner of Knorrstrasse and Petuelring, there is a ghost bike erected in 2016 as a memorial to a 53-year-old cyclist who was killed there in 2013. In September 2018, three ghost bikes were set up in Frankfurt / Main. This went back to a private initiative of Frankfurt cyclists, with the support of Radentscheid Frankfurt and the ADFC Frankfurt. In August 2018, a total of four cyclists were killed on Frankfurt's streets. In June 2019, the ADFC installed a ghost bike on Universitätsallee in Bremen for a cyclist who had an accident in April. After a cyclist suffered fatal injuries in an accident with a truck, a ghost bike was installed in Mannheim-Friedrichsfeld on June 28, 2019, with the participation of City Councilor Gerhard Fontagnier as part of a vigil ride.

Several ghost bikes have been set up in the Ruhr area since 2016:

In March 2008 in Vienna at the intersection Felberstraße / Schweglerstraße in was Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus by the IG bike set up a ghost bike. It should be thought of a cyclist who was killed in an accident in April 2007. Due to numerous complaints and the prevailing legal situation, the ghost bike had to be removed the next day (according to the road traffic regulations, it is forbidden to chain bicycles to traffic lights or traffic signs; however, this is only enforced by the police in the event of complaints). IG Fahrrad removed the ghost bike after being informed by the responsible municipal department.

According to Ghostbikes.org, two more ghost bikes were set up in Vienna, namely at the intersection of Erdberger Straße and Erdberger Steg as well as Hernalser Gürtel and Hernalser Hauptstraße.

In Graz / Wetzelsdorfer street at the meadow slope of the railway underpass - was in December 2008 at the corner of Carinthian Don Bosco a first ghost bike by ARGUS Styria and bicycle kitchen Graz installed. The student who had been involved in the accident collided and was fatally injured in November with a truck turning right, the driver of which was restricted in his mirror vision by cornering.

For two rather older cyclists who also died on the right of a truck turning right at intersections , two were charged on December 30, 2011 at the Inffeld- / Petersgasse intersection, Graz and on September 28, 2012 at the Seiersberg intersection , Triester Straße 472 set up more ghost wheels. While the first lasted a few weeks, the second was soon removed at the request of close relatives.

As part of the monthly Critical Mass trip (CM) in July 2014, a white bike was set up at the intersection of Lager- / Zweiglgasse - for a 64-year-old living not far in Rankengasse who entered the intersection on June 6th after ignoring a stop sign drove in and was rammed by a vehicle with an 81-year-old driver coming from across and braking. The cyclist died at the scene of the accident.

In April 2015, a 46-year-old was killed on the way home from his workplace by opening a car door in front of Belgiergasse 7, a 74-year-old died from the same accident mechanism on Felix-Dahn-Platz. During the CM ride on May 29, a white bike was set up near the accident sites and Argus Steiermark started a campaign for a 1.2 m lateral safety distance between cyclists and stationary cars.

In February 2018 in Vienna, a ghost bike was set up on the Praterstern near the Lasallestrasse confluence during a ghost bike ride for a 72-year-old cyclist who was hit by a car driver at the end of January and died that day from his injuries.

A ghost bike set up several years ago in Graz at Riesplatz in front of the LKH-Ost for a woman killed here is still standing today (as of May 2019).

In April 2019 a ghost bike was driven in front of the parish church Thondorf / St. Christoph, Liebenauer Hauptstrasse 291, for a 54-year-old killed by a car in March when turning left or leaning into the car. Rainer Maichin made sound recordings in his series "Morgen" on Radio Helsinki .

With the 125th CM in July 2019 in Graz-Andritz on the asphalted cycle path, which has been accompanying the newly constructed bed of the Andritzbach as flood protection since December 2016, the widening to a rest bay (e.g. at N47.100488, E15.413574) set up a ghost bike. Nearby, on June 13, 2019, a 65-year-old from Graz fell on an electric bicycle with or because of an oncoming 28-year-old and died of head injuries in the hospital the day after next .
