Ridge racer 64

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ridge Racer 64 (also RR64) is a racing game that was released for the Nintendo 64 in 2000 . It is the first implementation of the game series on a game console other than the PlayStation .

Gameplay

The aim of the game is to achieve the best possible placement within the time limit and the number of laps on each route. This can be used to unlock new racing cars and racetracks . The player can choose the color of his vehicle and choose between automatic transmission and manual transmission . A total of three routes, each with three variants, and 25 vehicles are available. The racing cars are partly fantasy products or are based on real cars.

In multiplayer, up to four players can compete against each other on one console or in two teams.

Since there is almost no loading time in the game for technical reasons, the arcade game Galaxian , which was included as a bonus , is omitted . However, a game scene can still be seen on the video wall on the first track .

The game received mostly good reviews, the controls and the graphics received special praise (Metacritic: 82%).

"Who would have thought that? Not only that N64 gamers can finally enjoy this classic - no, their version is even better than the original version. In addition to the significantly better graphics, the game also wins thanks to the precise analogue control and the great 4-player mode. The only point of criticism is the sound, which of course does not come close to the CD quality of the PS version, so that the criticism is primarily limited to the somewhat thin engine sound. "
