Ridley Park

Ridley Park is a small town ( borough ) in Delaware County, Pennsylvania and a suburb of Philadelphia in the metropolitan Delaware Valley .

Ridley Park is bordered by Prospect Park to the east and Ridley Township to the north, west and south .

history

The place was founded in 1871 by the president of a regional railway company. He hired a landscape architect to design Ridley Park as a planned town . The place attracted wealthy citizens of the surrounding cities who wanted to avoid the malaria that was rampant there at the time and used the new place as a summer residence. Some farmers sold land for the place. Therefore streets were named after them.

Ridley Park was initially part of Ridley Township and was spun off from it in 1887.

The United States Census 1880 found the population to be 439 people. The United States Census 2000 found the population to be 7196 people.

There are three schools, a hospital and a police station, as well as a stop on the Wilmington / Newark Line . In the fire station of the volunteer fire brigade there is a team transport vehicle, an ambulance vehicle and a ladder vehicle.

Boeing Defense, Space and Security is located in Ridley Park.

Culture and sights

Some villas in the style of Victorian architecture have been preserved from the founding period .

One church for the Baptists was built in 1873, a second in 1893, replacing a stone building from 1832. 1913-15 a church was built for the Presbyterian Church (USA) , replacing a building from 1876 and rebuilt in the 1950s. In 1878–80 a church was built for the Episcopal Church of the United States of America . 1895–96 the church was built for the United Methodist Church . The Mary Magdalene 's Church was built in 1907 for the Catholic Roman Church in the United States built, which was 1964-65 replaced by a new building.
