The Lords of Riedern were a noble family named after the village of Riedern . a district of the Lower Franconian community Eichenbühl .

history

The family was first mentioned in 1206 in a document through which the siblings Eberhard, Conrad, Hermann and Godesdiu donated their property in the Breitenau to the Bronnbach monastery. At the same time they submitted to the feudal lordship of the Count Palatine near Rhine . Probably a few decades later, however, the feudal rights passed to the Archbishopric of Mainz . As a result, for generations, members of the Electoral Mainz dynasty were officials in Bischofsheim , but also in Lauda and Buchen . From this time until 1959 the Riedernsche Hof was still preserved in Tauberbischofsheim .

In a number of places in today's Miltenberg, Main-Tauber and Hohenlohe districts, the family had possessions and rights, for example in Heppdiel , Eiersheim , Schönfeld , Gissigheim , Aschhausen , the Riedernhof in Lauda , Königheim , Külsheim-Steinbach, Wolferstettener Hof .

As an imperial noble family, they were organized in the knightly canton of Odenwald .

Walther von Riedern is Commander in Aichach and Hüttenheim in the Teutonic Order in 1328 .

With the death of Alexander von Riedern in 1588, the male line died out. Alexander was inherited half by his cousin Maria Salome, married to Philipp von Schneeberg , and his widow Anna Maria, geb. von Crailsheim , who married Bernhard von Wichsenstein zu Hainstadt in 1589 . His tomb forms the back of a side altar in the town church of Tauberbischofsheim.
