Riedji is an alp in the municipality of St. Niklaus ( Valais German Zaniglas ) in the Valais district of Visp .
geography
Riedji is 1793 m above sea level. M. on the left flank of the valley above St. Niklaus Dorf ( 1120 m above sea level , Valais German Zaniglas ) and can be reached on foot via a narrow path.
The settlement comprises six historic wooden buildings. They are log houses made of larch wood with roofs made of solid stone slabs . Between 1724 m and 1796 m they are scattered on a relatively steep mountain saddle of around 30,000 m 2 .
Name customer
The word Riedji is an old name for wet meadow .
history
The alp has been used by the residents of the village of St. Niklaus during the summer months for growing grain and for grazing cattle for over 500 years. The oldest building that still exists today was built in 1508.
Material ropeway
The single-cable aerial tramway with two connected carriages leads from St. Niklaus Dorf at 1239 m above sea level. M. to the settlement at 1707 m above sea level. M. The water ballast runway was built in 1937.
