Riels Mühle (desert)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Riels Mühle or Bongesmühle is a former residential area in the Heidenrod - Laufenselden district in the Rheingau-Taunus district between the villages of Aarbergen- Michelbach and Hohenstein- Burg-Hohenstein .

Geographical location and history

The complex with residential buildings, reservoir and watermill was located directly on the banks of the Aar and was accessible from Aarstrasse via a footbridge and an unrestricted level crossing over the Aartalbahn . A narrow access path from the slope side still exists today. The settlement area fell desolate in 1959. Between 1955 and 1959, the "School camps and school sports association Gymnasium am Kurfürstlichen Schloß Mainz eV" maintained a smaller school camp in or near the mill before it was moved to Winterburg in the Hunsrück . An indication of its existence is the ruin of a multi-part toilet facility near the mill foundations.

Surname

The name Riels Mühle is derived from the surname of a family who used to live there. After the first name of a former resident named Elisabeth, the place in the Volksbund is also known as Riels Bettche . The name Bongesmühle probably also comes from a personal name.

Garden refugee wild garlic

The former living space is the origin of one of the largest wild garlic deposits in the region, which extends over 2.46 hectares and extends 100 meters up the wooded valley slope. Cultivation in the former mill garden can be seen as the starting point for the occurrence of this garden refugee .
