history
Rienau was first mentioned in a document on July 17, 1231. The mention is also confirmed in the Frauensee monastery directory . Messrs Fritz and Herrman von Heringen-Rienau held the fiefdom . Then the Hennebergers took over . With the Office Frauensee it came after the Reformation to the Hesse-Kassel and 1816 to the Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach . From the 18th century it belonged to the Lords of Herda.
From 1950 Rienau belonged to the municipality of Auenheim-Rienau , which was incorporated into Horschlitt in 1974 , to Berka / Werra in 1994 and to Werra-Suhl-Tal in 2019.
