Giant beech near Oberbach
The giant beech near Oberbach , a common beech ( Fagus sylvatica ), stands about two kilometers southeast of Oberbach , a district of Wildflecken , in the Bad Kissingen district in the Bavarian Rhön . The tree stands above the Ziegelhütte at about 610 meters above sea level on the edge of the forest, already on the boundary of the neighboring municipality of Riedenberg in the Rosengarten nature reserve .

The short, stocky trunk has exposed roots up to six meters long. Of the originally five bow-shaped branches, one broke off towards the field in spring 2002. Since the beech is in the nature reserve, the wound on the trunk was not treated. The beech is around 200 to 340 years old. In 2001, the trunk had a circumference of 6.60 at the point of its smallest diameter and a height of 6.85 meters. In 2011 the circumference of the trunk at the point of its smallest diameter, at a height of 0.9 meters, was 6.65 meters. The beech is one of the strongest in Germany and, according to the German Tree Archives , for which the trunk circumference at a height of one meter serves as the most important selection criterion, is above the lower limit of nationally important trees (NBB). The beech is about 28 meters high, the crown diameter is 20 meters.
There are two more beech trees in the vicinity, one of them on the edge of the forest, about 100 meters to the southeast. She is in good condition and had a waist circumference of 5.58 meters in 2011 at a height of 1.10 meters. Another beech tree with a half-destroyed trunk and a waist circumference of 6.20 meters, at a height of 1.20 meters, stands 200 meters to the south-east in a hedge in 2011.
