The Rifugio Barmasse (Italian) or Refuge Barmasse (French) is a refuge in the Aosta Valley in the Valais Alps . It is located at an altitude of 2169 m in the Valtournenche side valley near Lake Tsignana within the municipality of Valtournenche . The hut is open from mid-June to the beginning of September and offers sleeping places for 24 mountaineers.
Ascent
The ascent to the hut begins in the Valmartin district ( 1495 m ) and leads over part of the Aosta Valley's high path no. 1 to the artificially dammed Lake Tsignana ( 2158 m ). Not far at the other end of the dam is the Barmasse refuge, which can be reached in about 1½ hours.
history
The refuge was inaugurated in 1965. It is named after the builder and previous owner.
Tour possibilities
The Gilliarey sanctuary ( 2174 m ), Mont Pancherot ( 2614 m ), the Balanselmo lakes ( 2740 m ) and the Cortina lakes ( 2083 m ) can be reached from the Barmasse refuge .

- Transfer to the Cunéy refuge ( 2652 m ) via the Fenêtre de Tzan ( 2736 m ) and Fenêtre d'Ersa ( 2290 m ) passes .
- Transition to the Perucca-Vuillermoz refuge ( 2909 m )
- Transition to the Prarayer refuge ( 2005 m ) via the Colle di Valcornera ( 3066 m ).
- Transition to the Manenti bivouac box ( 2789 m ).
- Transition to the Tzan bivouac box ( 2459 m ) on Lake Tzan.
- Crossing to the Rivolta bivouac box ( 2900 m ) at the Fort Pass.
