The mountain range of the Sengio Alto borders directly to the north of the hut . From Recoaro Terme, the Rifugio can be reached by car via the Strada provinciale SP 99 Campogrosso .

The Campogrosso hut is touched by both the E5 European long-distance hiking trail and the Sentiero della Pace (German: Friedensweg ).

history

The first refuge on Passo Campogrosso was built in 1898 by the Schio section of the Club Alpino Italiano . This hut, known as the Rifugio Schio , is located a little above the Rifugio Campogrosso and was used until the outbreak of the First World War .

After the end of the war, in 1920 the Section acquired a barracks on the former border with Austria-Hungary , which was used by the Italian Finance Guard until 1918 and for which there was no longer any need after the new border was drawn. This converted barracks building was inaugurated in 1923 as the Rifugio Olinto de Pretto , named after a section member who died shortly before.

In 1938 the section, which had got into financial difficulties, sold both huts to the CAI section Vicenza after parts had already been assigned to the section Vicenza in 1928.

After the end of the Second World War, the Rifugio de Pretto was renamed to the resistance fighter Antonio Giurolo, who died in 1945 . In 1984 the Rifugio Campogrosso Antonio Giurolo went into private ownership.
