Riho Ühtegi

Riho Ühtegi (born February 15, 1964 ) is an Estonian officer with the rank of brigadier general . Since 2019 he has been in command of the Defense Union ( Estonian : Kaitseliit ).

Life

Riho Ühtegi is a graduate of Elva Gymnasium (born 1982) and the University of Tartu . He left the latter in 2007 with a master's degree in law .

Military career

Promotions

Today's general, like many of his compatriots, did his military service in the Soviet Army from 1982 to 1984 . When Estonia regained its independence, he joined the Kaitseliit in 1990 , but between 1991 and 1993 he worked full-time in the police service.

In 1994 he completed his officer training at the National Defense Academy and was then for the intelligence service of the Estonian Defense Forces operate. In the next few years various further training courses at foreign military schools followed and in 2006 an assignment abroad in Afghanistan. He then worked as a lecturer at the Estonian Military Academy from 2007 to 2008. After this brief assignment, he returned to the intelligence service and took part in another assignment abroad in Afghanistan in 2010. From 2011 to 2012 he was a military attaché in Georgia. After returning to his home country, he was appointed commander of the Estonian special forces. He held this post for the next seven years.

In July 2019, he was appointed Commander of the Defense Association as the successor to Meelis Kiili . A short time later he was promoted to Brigadier General by President Kersti Kaljulaid .

Private

Riho Ühtegi is married and has two daughters. In addition to his mother tongue, he also speaks English and Russian.
