Ilya Lushtak

Ilya Lushtak (* around 1975 in Saint Petersburg ) is a Russian modern jazz musician ( guitar , vocals , also composition ) living in the United States .

Liushtak grew up from the age of three in San Francisco, where he went to school and played or had lessons with musicians such as Bruce Forman , Vince Lateano, Vince Wallace, Ed Kelly and Bishop Norman Williams. He then had his first engagements with greats from the Bay Area such as Larry Vuckovich and Noel Jewkes . From the 1900s he worked in the New York jazz scene a. a. with Jimmy Cobb , Cedar Walton , Mel Rhyne , Louis Hayes , Rufus Reid , Charles Earland , Dr. Lonnie Smith , Jimmy Lovelace ,Curtis Lundy , Joe Magnarelli , David Hazeltine . Since 1999 he has toured Europe several times with his own band, mostly in Russia. From 2003 to 2013 he worked with Hank Jones and Frank Wess , with whom he made his first recordings in 2003 ( Hank & Frank ), also in the Killer Ray Appleton / Melvin Rhyne Quartet, with Guillaume de Chassy / Daniel Yvinec ( Wonderful World , Bee Jazz 2005 ) and in the Ruslan Khain Sextet ( Tie It In!, 2008).

Lushtak played again with Frank Wess and Hank Jones in 2009, when the album Hank & Frank II with John Webber , Mickey Roker and vocalist Marion Cowings was created. In the 2010s he played a. a. with Ben Meigners and Joe Farnsworth ; In 2017 he led the Ilya Lushtak Quintet , which included Grant Stewart , Anthony Wonsey , Nickolai Zatolochnyi (bass) and Steve Williams . He is currently performing with the Aaron Johnson Quintet (with Neal Miner , Charles Goold , Michael Figueiredo ). In the field of jazz he was involved in six recording sessions between 2003 and 2009.
